Long Beach State's James Ennis has earned the StatSheet Big West Player of the Week for the week ending February 18th. UC Irvine's Alex Young has won StatSheet Big West Freshman of the Week. Ennis tallied big numbers in shooting (60%), scoring (19 pts per game), and rebounding (9 per game). The Long Beach State senior played well in wins versus Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside.
Ennis topped all scoring and rebounding for the 49ers with 26 points and 15 rebounds in a big 85-65 win over Cal State Fullerton. He followed that up with 12 points and 4 assists in a huge 75-35 victory over UC Riverside.
James Ennis has been named StatSheet Big West Player of the Week three times this season. He has also received an honorable mention. The runner-up this week is our own Alan Williams. Honorable mention goes to junior Tony Freeland from Long Beach State.
StatSheet Big West Freshman of the Week: UC Irvine's Alex Young
Alex Young averaged 29 minutes starting both games for UC Irvine. He led all Big West freshmen in both scoring (13.0 pts per game) and assists (5.5 per game). In a late 52-48 win over UC Riverside, Young tallied 10 points and 8 rebounds. Then in a massive 86-66 win against Cal State Fullerton, he put up 7 assists and 66% shooting.
Amazingly, Alex Young has won the StatSheet Big West Freshman of the Week 3 times. The runner-up is Joel Awich from Cal Poly. Zach Gordon from Cal Poly takes honorable mention. The highest ranking freshman from UC-Santa Barbara was Michael Bryson who finished 7th. UC-Santa Barbara has won the StatSheet Big West Player of the Week award 2 times this season.
